Pink Tipped Rose

By Andrew Barrow In Wednesday Photo Shot

Something I’ve not really done before – flowers. Strange perhaps seeing as the olden has a thriving passion for orchids and is often dashing of to South America on orchid hunts up the mountains. This however is a rose which came form a £3.50 bunch of flowers from Waitrose and not some exotic jungle-clad mountain side. There is a vague plan to borrow some of the oldens orchid plants to photograph the flowers, in the future.

Two versions of the rose for the Wednesday Photo spot – one was taken using the F1.4 lens, which is stuck at f/1.4, (a cropped photo). The second, perhaps my preferred version, is from my standard 24-135 lens set at 113mm and f/11. I do like the softness of the f/1.4, and the spread of colour that rsults, but the crispness of the f/11 I think, wins…

nice. I am a bit of a sucker for photographing flowers!! I actually prefer the f1.4 version because I am just a shallow DoF kinda girl – but see why you might prefer the other one :) Both are lovely!
