On a whim an Ebay purchase netted a Mamiya/Sekor 50mm f1.8 lens and adaptor ring. It works but the camera (Canon 7d) only reports the f stop at f1.4. Unsure if the lens is broken… It is also damn tricky to focus at 1.4 even though the adaptor ring has ‘focus return’. Why the purchase? A cheap way to get a 50mm f1.8/1.4 for use in dark restaurants, although the difficulty in focusing might make this impossible (especially as the f stop doesnt seem to change). Should have just brought the Canon version really…
A test shot below. Interesting bokeh.
Off to a wine makers lunch today in central London, which I know is to be held in a dark ‘cellar’, so will take the lens for a trial run.

Nice… But yes, going to be a challenge focussing in the dark! You will have a lot of fun though
